Object-Oriented Programming is a style, technique, design strategy used, not a type of programming language. Technically, any processor languge (C, C++, C Sharp, Ada, Java, Fortran, BASIC, COBOL, etc) can be used with Object-Oriented Programming. Now some are definately more suited than others, but a programming language is separate from the design strategy used. Java does lend itself very well to OOP.

You'll find C++ and Java to be very similar because they're in the same family of languages. Just as human spoken languages have families (Romance languages and Germanic languages), so too do programming languages.

As for making Java from Java, you can't do that with any language. Any third-generation language is technically developed in a 2nd-generation language (some form of Assembly is often the case). Compiling your code converts it from C++ to Assembly. Then there's another technical term which is escaping me at the moment to convert the code from Assembly into your machine language (aka binary specific to the type of processor being used).

And that's your basic introduction to programming languages.
